The HMAVR from HMA Materials Handling is a multi-directional Doppler radar system that monitors actual train speed from either an incoming or outgoing direction on a single line track. It can be mounted on either side of the track and provides speed data through a local PC or directly with a PLC system via MODUBUS/TCP or an analogue 4-20 mA output.

The system is typically used for train-loading operations and caters for ultra low speeds of 0.3 km/h and higher speeds of up to 16 km/h, with direct communication with the control system and PC via a local Ethernet connection, preferably through an Ethernet switch.

Configuration and monitoring of the system, including IP setup, data smoothing, incoming/outgoing direction swapping, system status and historical trend data for up to the last five trains is carried out by means of the free-issued PC program. It can also be used for instant diagnostics and as a display of the actual speed being detected.

The unit comes with waterproof plugs to allow easy connection of the 24vDC power, ethernet and analogue cables. It also requires very little power to run (~140mA), which can be supplied by either a local power supply or a separate solar/battery system. Considering train speed is measured using radar, accurate feedback is provided without being affected by external sources such as dust.
