Description

The Nixon NT series turbine flow meter from HMA Instrumentation is available in a wide range of body sizes and styles to suit liquid flow applications for low to medium viscosity fluids. Suitable for lubricating and non-lubricating liquids, the Nixon NT series turbine flow meters from HMA Instrumentation produce an electrical pulse output.

The principle of operation is based on a permanent magnet contained within a pick-off coil on the body and a ferritic stainless steel rotor which revolves when flow is present. A small AC voltage is generated in the coil as the rotor tip passes the magnet. The frequency of this AC voltage is directly proportional to the flow rate. The total number of pulses produced represents the total flow passed through the meter.

This pulse frequency output can be displayed either on a direct mount or remotely mounted Nixon flow meter display and totaliser to provide flow rate indication and total flow and to allow for remote batch control with electromechanical relay options. Electronic frequency to analogue converters is also available upon request if 4…20 mA or voltage outputs are required.

The Nixon NT series turbine flow meter from HMA Instrumentation is highly accurate and reliable, with a fast response time to step changes (50 m/s for 50% change in flow rate). It is suitable for flow rates from 0.5…..10 000 litres/min. It is available with either BSP threaded connections or ANSI, DIN or BS standard flanges from 1/2″” to 6″”. The maximum pressure is only limited by the end fittings.

PTFE or carbon-filled or tungsten carbide spindle bushes and tungsten carbide spindles allow for free rotation of the rotors. However, the inherent drag on the rotors does mean that this product is not suitable to measure below 0.5% of flow range.

Features include:

  • A linear accuracy of ± 0.5% over a 10:1 range
  • A repeatability of ± 0.1% of reading
  • A response time of 50 milliseconds for a 50% step change in the flow rate
  • A pressure drop from 0.2 to 0.5 bar depending on the meter size
  • An operating pressure of twice the pressure drop across the meter plus vapour pressure of liquid
  • Output signal: Sinusoidal pulses 50 mV to 800 mV peak, varying with the flow rate
  • Suitable for temperatures from –30….+400°C
